There was no setback to economy: Pondicherry CMPondicherry, Aug 2: Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said there was no setback to economy or revenue base of Pondicherry following implementation of the uniform sales tax. Replying to views expressed by members during the two-day debate on the motion of thanks to the Lt Governor for his address,which concluded in the House today, Rangasamy said the government was adopting firm job policy and promotion of such activities like proposals to establish a special economic zone would go a long way to end unemployment among the youth.He said of the 7694 industries functioning in the Union Territory as many as 7462 units were in the small scale sector. He said his government would not allow hereafter any industries that would pose threat to environment and sub soil water table. Infrastructure development was on top of agenda of development here.Rangasamy also said the new facility available for the Pondicherry government to raise loan from market borrowings would also be of help as against nine per cent rate of interest levied under loans under non plan wing by the Central government. read more. The group will be placed on a one year training and development program that will prepare them for careers in banking. GNH signs $40m charter dealDubai: Gulf Navigation Holding (GNH), an oil and chemical carrier, and ST Shipping and Trading, Switzerland-based Glencore's shipping arm, one of the largest oil trading houses in the world, have signed a time charter agreement for three ships at Dh145 million ($40m). Under the terms of the agreement, GNH will time-charter two ships to ST Shipping and Trading for up to two years under long-term fixed rate employment, and a third at a floating market rate with a fixed minimum charter rate. The vessels are double hull, 48,000 metric tones deadweight each and have liquid capacity of about 50,000 cu m. The vessels are capable of speeds up to 15 knots. Ghazi Al Ibrahim, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Gulf Navigation Holding said: "The confidence Glencore has placed in us through this deal reflects the credibility of our operations as a global operator." LCL Corp associate lands RM68.8m Dubai jobLCL Corporation Bhd said its associated company in Dubai, LCL Interiors LLC (LCL Interiors) has received a letter of acceptance from CSHK Dubai Contracting (LLC) (CSHK) for interior finishes sub-contract works worth RM68.8 million for the service apartment in the Burj Dubai Development. In a statement on July 26, the company said that LCL Interiors was awarded the sub-contract works for all interior finishes to the service apartment (17th to 41st floor), the front of the house areas and interior finishing of the four passenger lift cabs on July 24. LCL Corporation said the sub-contract works would commence immediately with completion scheduled for October 2007, and is expected to contribute positively towards its earnings for the current financial year.
