Aman achieves 22 per cent emiratisation

Dubai Islamic Insurance and Reinsurance Company (AMAN) said it had registered highest rate of Emiratisation of jobs among insurance companies in UAE during the second quarter of 2006 with 22 per cent of posts already emiratized, according to its managing director Hussein Mohammed Al Meeza. . read more.

Kolkata: Work at India Jute Mill at Srirampur in Hooghly district has been suspended since last night, with lower production being cited as the reason behind the management's decision.A suspension of work notice was put up at Arun Bajoria's India Jute Mill, which employs about 3,500 people."We came to know that India Jute Mill has been closed by the management late last evening. But reasons behind the move are yet to be known," INTUC leader Ganesh Sarkar said.According to workers, the management has cited lower production as reason for the decision."The mill management is trying to create trouble before a mass strike call by the jute mill unions against non-payment of arrears, including dearness allowance, which had been agreed upon by the mills," Sarkar alleged. . read more.

Garmin Ltd . sold $432.5 million worth of navigation gear during the second quarter, shattering Wall Street estimates for the Olathe company. Before the market opened this morning, the manufacturer of Global Positioning System devices reported a $120.7 million profit for the three months. Min Kao, Garmin's chief executive, said the sale of automotive products grew by more than 100 percent during the period. "Solid growth in both our automotive/mobile and outdoor/fitness segments has positioned us to exceed our earlier 2006 guidance for these segments," Kao said in a statement. The company raised its sales projections for 2006 to $1.6 billion, and earnings per share forecast to "exceed $3.90." SAAG RR Infra bags Rs 3.18 cr order from Degremont

Mumbai: Construction company SAAG RR Infra Ltd has bagged an order worth Rs 3.18 crore from water treatment company Degremont Ltd for undertaking construction work at a water treatment plant in Karnataka.The order entails carrying out civil construction works for a 100 MLD (million litres per day) water treatment plant, which is on the premises of an existing 270 MLD plant at T K Halli, Karnataka.The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that it would commence work from August 3 and complete it within four months.Shares of the company were up 7.25 per cent, trading at Rs 33.30 on the BSE. . read more.

HATS off to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for its initiative to engage 30 retired UAE citizens as overseers to report and catch people found using their private cars as taxis. The new officials have all served in the army or the police and are particularly familiar with the job. They would be eligible for a monthly remuneration of Dh1,000 in addition to 5 per cent of the value of fines they collect from offenders, provided that the total collected charges do not exceed Dh9,000 a month.
