Expat Australians welcome Howard's bid for fifth termDubai: Australians living in the UAE have welcomed the news that their long-serving Prime Minister John Howard is to seek another term in office. Howard announced this week he would remain leader of the Liberal party and contest elections scheduled for late 2007. Asked whether the project would be on joint venture basis as suggested by the previous UDF government, Achuthanandan said options were open in this regard. "DIC could implement the project on their own," he added. Expat secretaries to be allowed new positionsDubai: Expatriate secretaries will be able to continue working for their employers as long as the title and nature of their positions are adjusted, said a senior labour official. Dr Khalid Al Khazraji, Undersecretary of Labour, said that although secretarial positions were to be emiratised, employers were being given the option to keep their former expatriate secretaries as long as they were given alternative positions. "There is a need for flexibility in implementing the rules. The idea is to encourage companies to employ UAE nationals," he said. However, he added that secretarial positions were exclusively reserved for UAE nationals.
