Foundations for Palm Jumeirah monorail to be completed soonDubai: The foundations for the path of the Palm Jumeirah's Dh900-million monorail transit system will be completed this month, according to Palm developers Nakheel. The 5.4km long transport system will run between the Gateway Station at the trunk of The Palm Jumeirah and the Atlantis Station on the crescent, calling at two intermediate stations on the way Trump Tower and Village Centre. Arabian Forasol, a UAE/Swiss company, has been awarded two piling packages for the Trump Tower station on the trunk and the Atlantis station on the Palm's crescent. Piling began on the crescent station this week and will start on the Gateway stop in September. The initiative, launched in the Global Education Management Schools (GEMS) group, is entirely optional and guarantees a child's education in the event of death or permanent disability of a family's main wage earner. Known as the GEMS Education Protection Programme (GEPP), it is said to be the first of its kind in the UAE education market. Coverage for the insured family member is valid worldwide. Companies may get option to keep secretariesDubai: The Ministry of Labour has submitted a memorandum to the Cabinet proposing that companies which do not wish to replace expatriate secretaries with UAE nationals can opt to pay a Dh60,000 yearly fee. The memorandum proposes that companies that wish to keep their expatriates secretaries can pay an equivalent salary amount to the National Human Resources and Employment Authority (Tanmia) to train UAE nationals on their behalf, said Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour, yesterday at a press conference. "Companies that wish to keep their expatriate will have to pay an equivalent salary which the ministry calculated will be an average of Dh5,000 each month to Tanmia to provide UAE nationals with training," said Dr Al Ka'abi. A ministerial decision which came into effect on June 24 requires all secretarial positions to be emiratised. read more. LCL Corp associate lands RM68.8m Dubai jobLCL Corporation Bhd said its associated company in Dubai, LCL Interiors LLC (LCL Interiors) has received a letter of acceptance from CSHK Dubai Contracting (LLC) (CSHK) for interior finishes sub-contract works worth RM68.8 million for the service apartment in the Burj Dubai Development. In a statement on July 26, the company said that LCL Interiors was awarded the sub-contract works for all interior finishes to the service apartment (17th to 41st floor), the front of the house areas and interior finishing of the four passenger lift cabs on July 24. LCL Corporation said the sub-contract works would commence immediately with completion scheduled for October 2007, and is expected to contribute positively towards its earnings for the current financial year.
