Govt to construct over-head bridge in SrinagarSrinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government said it would construct an over head foot-bridge near Government Degree College for Women here at an estimated cost of Rs 35 lakh."The work on the over-head bridge would be completed by October this year," Minister for Roads and Buildings, Gulchain Singh Charak, said while laying foundation for the 70-feet foot bridge last evening.Charak said the upcoming bridge would ease traffic woes near the college and its adjacent areas.He said construction works of four vital bridges in the city was near completion which include Saidakadal, Ashaibagh and Nowpora bridges. The work on Dalgate bridge has been suspended for some time due to some technical reasons.The minister also said the government have embarked on various developmental works to beautify the Srinagar city adding that upgradation and renovation of different roads in the city would be done soon.He expressed confidence that the massive reconstruction programme launched by the government as enshrined in the Common Minimum Programme will bring about socio-economic transformation in the state. read more. Over 90 per cent got jobs under rural employment schemeNew Delhi: More than 90 per cent of job applicants have been given employment under the national rural employment guarantee act, the Rajya Sabha was informed today."Out of 7,328,551 persons who have demanded employment (under the NREGA), 6,886,729 have been provided, which is 93.97 per cent," Minister of State for Rural Development Suryakanta Patil said in a reply.The Minister, however, admitted that a range of factors, such as state elections and shortage of staff and training, did slow down the progress of the rural employment programme in certain areas initially.But progress considerably improved after separate funds came in provide training for the programme, she said."Besides, instructions have been issued by the Central government from time to time for effective implementation of the act by the states." Sanitation: The Delhi government has made no request to the Centre to be part of its total sanitation campaign (TSC), Minister of State for Rural Development A Narendra said in a reply.The campaign is, however, under implementation in 559 rural districts across the country, he said."All the remaining districts in the country will be covered during the eleventh plan." Jharkhand Roads: The Jharkhand government has spent Rs 64.78 crore out of Rs 170 crore of the Central allocation in 2005-06 under the Pradhan mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, the Rajya Sabha was informed.In 2004-05, it spent Rs 95.08 crore out of Rs 110 crore on rural road-laying under the scheme, Patil said. read more.
