As a destination, Dubai has typical elements of the package destination, but the emphasis and placement of the destination towards the high end of the market means that Dubai has managed to carve out a specific niche. The beaches attract a massive influx of travellers from around the globe as do the hotels which, in some cases, are a spectacle in themselves as well as the tourist draws of the month long Dubai Shopping Festival, an abundance of championship quality golf courses and the annual F1 Grand Prix. But for the more independent traveller, Dubai is often overlooked simply as a western style holiday destination. The unique blend of west meets middle east typified the look and feel of Dubai, but outside the city itself there is much to interest the more curious traveller. The wider region of Dubai is a land of contrasts from the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula to the expansive coastline. One of the most popular and rewarding attractions is a Bedouin desert safari located some 50 miles outside of the city. Visitors who scratch beneath the shiny surface of the city are often with a real glimpse into Middle Eastern life and a sample of the historic and cultural legacy that is retained within Emirate life. Exploring the wider region of Dubai is relatively easy, although the public transport system doesn’t cover all areas and the best option is perhaps car rental. Car hire in Dubai is relatively straightforward with most of the major car rental firms retaining a presence in Dubai. Whatever your intentions from a holiday in Dubai, it is possible to have a dose of history and culture as well as the modern attractions within this emerging destination. Plan to take away power procurement work from Transco: BJPNew Delhi, Aug 2: The BJP today accused the government of planning to strip public body Delhi Transco Ltd off the work of procurement of power for the national capital and transfer it to three private power distribution companies.The party's Delhi state President Harsh Vardhan claimed the proposal would compel the public to pay "four or five times more charges for the consumption of power".Vardhan also claimed that the government had directed the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission to take steps in this regard.He alleged that the government had decided to give this responsibility to the three companies without inviting open tenders. . read more. LCL Corp associate lands RM68.8m Dubai jobLCL Corporation Bhd said its associated company in Dubai, LCL Interiors LLC (LCL Interiors) has received a letter of acceptance from CSHK Dubai Contracting (LLC) (CSHK) for interior finishes sub-contract works worth RM68.8 million for the service apartment in the Burj Dubai Development. In a statement on July 26, the company said that LCL Interiors was awarded the sub-contract works for all interior finishes to the service apartment (17th to 41st floor), the front of the house areas and interior finishing of the four passenger lift cabs on July 24. LCL Corporation said the sub-contract works would commence immediately with completion scheduled for October 2007, and is expected to contribute positively towards its earnings for the current financial year. Including the latest job, LCL Interiors had received three interior fit-out works from the same developer, amounting to RM139 million. read more.
