Dubai Jobs

Dubai is a leading cultural and trading hub, offering a free/open market with no exchange controls, restrictive quotas or trade barriers. It is found to be a strategic location at the heart of the world’s richest region by many multi-national companies. The Dubai economy is served by more than 170 shipping lines and 86 airlines. Most of the business operations deal with trade, transportation, tourism, distribution, consulting and processing.

Labor law is protective of employees. It governs hours of work, leave, termination rights, medical benefits and repatriation. Employment for foreigners is on a contract basis. Vacations generally follow the rule of 21 days for every year of the first five years of service and 30 days for every year thereafter. The total gratuity will not exceed two years\' wages. Vacations can also be pro-rated after the first year. Trade unions do not exist.

The normal working hours are eight per day or 48 per week. However, these hours may be increased to nine daily for people working in the retail trade, hotels and similar establishments. Difficult or dangerous jobs carry shorter workweeks. Many businesses work on a two-shift system. As in all Muslim countries, Friday is the weekly day of rest. Private companies work 40-45 hours a week and government bodies about 35. During the holy month of Ramadan working hours are usually reduced by about two hours a day. The weekend has traditionally been Thursday afternoon and Friday, but a number of organizations have changed to a five-day week with Friday and Saturday as the weekend.

Jackie O's estate benefits from local artist

It was around two oclock in the morning. Missouri Southern State University alumnus T. Crowe (Terry) Semler was having problems with the thesis he was writing for his master's degree at the University of Arkansas. Earlier in the day he had heard one student say to another "If you google yourself and don't find anything, you're really nothing." TERRY SEMLER He thought about the comment for a moment. Then he went back to work on the thesis and typed on, but, after awhile, he knew he needed a break. Normally, he would have worked on one of his many paintings or other art projects to clear his head. But this time, for the first time in his life, he went online and typed his own name in the Google Internet search engine. "I hit enter," he says," and immediately up pops an article saying that Sotheby's has had a sale of the estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and it has brought in over $5 million dollars." He scrolled down and came across this paragraph from the New York Times: "Mary Lou Boone of San Marino, Calif., was in New York visiting with her daughter and felt impelled to have something from the historic era to pass along. read more.

Location matters

Spa and leisure facilities at Fujairahs first five-star beach resort, Le Meridien Al Aqah, are preparing for expansion, following three successful years of operation, according to Talar Hagopian, spa manager at the resort. The resort, which first opened in 2003, has set the benchmark for hotel operations in the emirate, and is soon to be joined by Rotana and Japanese hotel group JAL Hotels, which is set to open the Nikko Fujairah in December, as the Fujairah coastline becomes a favourite weekend and day destination for those living in the UAE. As local weekend and day visitor numbers continue to grow year on year, Hagopian is preparing to extend her spa facilities with the opening of more treatment rooms and is now busy promoting the resorts day spa offering. My new challenge is to market our day spa, or what we refer to now as Al Aqah Journeys, to the residents of Dubai and neighbouring emirates. read more.
