Govt to construct over-head bridge in SrinagarSrinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government said it would construct an over head foot-bridge near Government Degree College for Women here at an estimated cost of Rs 35 lakh."The work on the over-head bridge would be completed by October this year," Minister for Roads and Buildings, Gulchain Singh Charak, said while laying foundation for the 70-feet foot bridge last evening.Charak said the upcoming bridge would ease traffic woes near the college and its adjacent areas.He said construction works of four vital bridges in the city was near completion which include Saidakadal, Ashaibagh and Nowpora bridges. The work on Dalgate bridge has been suspended for some time due to some technical reasons.The minister also said the government have embarked on various developmental works to beautify the Srinagar city adding that upgradation and renovation of different roads in the city would be done soon.He expressed confidence that the massive reconstruction programme launched by the government as enshrined in the Common Minimum Programme will bring about socio-economic transformation in the state. read more. Nepalis stranded in DubaiA Nepali social worker in Dubai, Shyam Sharma, informed Nepalnews that the brokers brought them to Dubai after taking Rs. 150,000 per person giving assurance of good jobs in Iraq. The brokers had assured them to take them to Iraq via Dubai. The brokers fled after keeping Nepali workers in Rasalakhai city of Dubai. Of the stranded workers, five Nepalis, who were languishing in the city, said they did not even have proper arrangements for food. Stating that the number of Nepali people being cheated is increasing every day, Sharma advised the government to correspond to the concerned embassies not to issue visit visas to Nepalis and if anybody wants to go to the Arab countries, they should not be allowed to go there without having US dollars 1,000. Though the government has been banning foreign employment in Iraq, many Nepali go there via India with the hope of earning more money. read more. Work suspened at India Jute MillKolkata: Work at India Jute Mill at Srirampur in Hooghly district has been suspended since last night, with lower production being cited as the reason behind the management's decision.A suspension of work notice was put up at Arun Bajoria's India Jute Mill, which employs about 3,500 people."We came to know that India Jute Mill has been closed by the management late last evening. But reasons behind the move are yet to be known," INTUC leader Ganesh Sarkar said.According to workers, the management has cited lower production as reason for the decision."The mill management is trying to create trouble before a mass strike call by the jute mill unions against non-payment of arrears, including dearness allowance, which had been agreed upon by the mills," Sarkar alleged. . read more.
